Editorial Review :

Sometimes a garden hose just isn't enough. And when you're faced with a task like that, this little Karcher can help you out. It supplies 1500 psi, moving 1.7 gallons per minute, more than enough force to blast moss off bricks and clean up everything in its path: patios, paths, walls, swimming pools, lawn mowers, garden furniture and tools. It's perfect, too, for washing boats, cars and trucks, with its detergent injector and brush. Everything stores right on board, another feature we like. Much of the unit is plastic, so it's lightweight and easily portable, but we don't think it will stand up to heavy-duty use, so it's best for the homeowner with smaller jobs like patios, driveways, steel siding and cars to wash. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

junk

Don't spend a dime for this piece of junk. Plastic water inlet connector is fragile as an eggshell. Given all the similar reviews of this and other Karcher products, Amazon should drop this supplier altogether.

Don't buy a Karcher Electric Pressure Washer

I thought I was getting a deal on the Karcher electric pressure washer until I had to replace the wand each year because after a few uses it starts leaking. Yes, yours will too. That item is about $50. I have replaced 3 of them. You might try to go the cheap route by replacing the washers but that will not work well so save yourself the time and just get the new wand. It should be fine for one more season. Next, the plastic part that you hook the garden hose is poorly designed. Once this simple little plastic part breaks...and IT WILL, you are in for a real headache. The replacement part is about $35 but paying that is the easy part. Replacing the part is next to impossible and it is at that precise moment when you will have wished you listened to my review and looked for something else.

I have almost tripled the cost of the Karcher pressure washer with replacement parts over the past 3 years.

Spend a few more dollars and get something better. Do not buy a home pressure washer that is covered with plastic parts. You are better off being able to see the motor and parts that will eventually need replacement.

The garden hose has better pressure

I was really excited when I bought this. I put it all together and I shouldn't have bothered. The garden hose all by itself does a better job. Haven't tried the warranty service yet. Kept it too long before trying it to return it.

Don't buy any Karcher Electric washers

I've had 3 of the Karcher "pressure" washers. Only pressure the first time or two you use it and then it stops working or works poorly if at all.

The first one failed AFTER the warranty was out. I bought it mid summer and didn't assemble and use it until the middle of the next summer. The second time I used it the leaks started and the warranty had expired.

The local service place said that it wasn't worth repairing and that you shouldn't use it for more than 20 minutes with 40 minutes of rest if you expected it to work very long. If you use it and don't let it rest the gasket at minimum and perhaps pump will need replacing.

I bought another one on sale - different model number but basically the same. Hmmm.... wonder why they were selling them out? I suspect because they don't last long.

It failed within 2 hours of first use. The previous warranty shop was no longer servicing them so I called Karcher and was given the location of the nearest repair station involving a 75 mile round trip. When I arrived there the next day they laughed and said they no longer service anything from Karcher and got tired of not being able to get parts from Karcher and wasting time trying to get parts while the units piled up and overflowed their storage area.

Back home, I called Karcher and they said to box up the unit and send it to them which I did very well packed and at my expense. After a long time they sent me a replacement. It was going into winter by then and I didn't open it to assemble until the following summer. The box was a bit dinged but didn't look like anything serious considering it came UPS. When I opened it and started to assemble it was cracked in a dozen places and the interior of the shipping box looked like they failed to provide even the bare minimum of padding. OR they shipped me one that was damaged when it left their location. I managed to put it together and use some duct tape and used it once.

The second time I used it it would cycle on and off by itself and was starting to fail to shut off reliably when I shut off the wand.

I again tried to use it today and it fails to turn off EVEN WITH THE MAIN SWITCH. It appears after I disassembled things that both of the switches in the electrical control unit are shorted.

These things should be taken off the market. They are poorly made and poorly engineered, fail with little use and in no way have any that I've had come close to doing what they are advertised to to more than once or twice. After that they are nothing but a pain to try to use.

Right now I'm waiting to see if I can purchase (good money after bad?) the switches and take a chance that it will fix the problem. Maybe I could use it a few times before another problem arises. I'd probably be smart to junk it and figure that I threw away around $300 on the piles of junk.

I wonder if the proliferation of models and model numbers is an attempt to keep the customer from realizing they are getting the same basic troublesome device that will do little but take their money. It may work well for a few hours but in the end it's going to fail if my experience is any indication.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on an electric unit by this company.

not a bad little washer....

I recently bought a 30+ year old house. There was mold, old paint, etc that needed to be cleaned off. also, imagine 30+ years of dirt and grime on sidewalks surrounding the house. the concrete was almost a dark grey color. After about 6 hours of washing, the concrete looks like it was poured yesterday! Granted, there were some rust stains that didn't come up, but i wasn't using any sort of a chemical cleaner, just water. The dirt just sprayed right off! Not bad for the price either, although i found a $50 cheaper brand the next day. The unit is not quite strong enough to remove paint, but it does take some of it off. The only reason the washer got 4 stars is because the hose connection on the unit is very touchy. the slightest pull or tug and it pops off, hose and all. Even just moving the unit around, you have to hold the hose so that no "pulling" occurs on the connection. Even turning on the hose too quickly will cause it to pop off.

BEWARE of buying this from Amazon.com

I bought this for my husband last Valentine's Day from Amazon.com. They sent me the wrong model 3 different times and when I finally found a phone number to call them they told me that the information and picture on the website was incorrect and that they were actually selling the K205M Model (Not Plus) which sits on the ground, Has no wheels or handle and it has only 2 attachments. I sent them ALL back and refuse to buy TOOLS from Amazon since. Needless to say I ended up buying the real K205M Plus from ... [another store] and I ended up paying less anyway!

Fantastic product - powerful and easy to handle

I bought this product in Germany. It is a fantastic maschine, which includes a so called "dirt blaster". This is a rotary high pressure tool, that cleans off really stubborn dirt. I clean with this machine my car, mossy garden paths, walls, my terrace, my lawn mower, etc. With this high pressure cleaner you can clean all these things very quickly and easily. And I use 80% less water than I would with a normal garden hose!

Not a "chick tool," but ...

As a female DIY enthusiast, I'm always looking for tools that are powerful, but not out of my weight class. I found the Karcher 205 pressure washer to be a powerful and easy to use cleaning tool. The manual is actually clearly written, which made the minimal assembly a quick job. I especialy like the tall wheels-and-handle arrangement, which allows for easy moving of the unit when in use--as well as convenient cord and accessory storage when not in use. Also, the spray wand rotates on the end of a good long hose, so I was able to carry the spray wand up the ladder to clean the gutters without having the drag the rest of the unit around with me. However, my favorite feature is the fact that the motor only activates when you engage the trigger on the spray wand, which lessens the noise factor. And, you don't have to worry about burning out the motor when you're not spraying, because there is a five minute "rest" period built in. Thus, you can take your time to reposition your ladder or yourself, while leaving both the motor and the water supply turned on. I have used this tool for a couple of jobs so far, and I can see where it will prove invaluable come Spring.

The only drawback, and this is very minor, is storing the unit. The manual is quite explicit that even after the unit is emptied of all water, the unit should not be stored in areas where temperatures drop below freezing, which elminates my garage and attic. However, since I am a real tool lover, I don't mind storing my Karcher 205 in the corner of the spare bedroom where I can admire it at my leisure!

Questions & Answers
Question : Can an electric power washer be used with an extension cord? If not, why not?
I have a heavy duty 100 ft extension cord and want to buy an electric power washer. I keep reading reviews that say that they can not be used with an extension cord. However, because of outlet placement, I have to. Is there a guage cord I could use?

Answer:
Small wire cords will cause a voltage drop and can burn up the motor in the power washer, voiding the warranty. A larger cord will not cause a voltage drop. You need to know the amps required by the washer. A cord 100 feet long will give you this many amps without a serious voltage drop: #10 12 amps at 120 volts #12 8 amps at 120 volts #14 5 amps at 120 volts most heavy duty cords are #14

Question : how much pressure from an electric power washer will take the paint off of my car?
I'm looking for an electric power washer to clean my cars, driveway, house siding etc. But I'm worried that too much pressure could harm what I want to clean.

Answer:
I don't think the pressure is the problem, I think the attachment, and what degree sprayer you are using makes the difference...Now obviously pressure affects it some, but if you use a 0 degree sprayer, you are going to remove paint, but go to a wider angle, and keep about a 16" distance from your car, and you should be ok.

Question : I have a large bathroom in my office. Is it possible to use an electric power washer to blast away dirt?
I saw one on sale for $200 in Lowes. How can you use an electric power washer indoors and hook it up to the water so I can blast away in the bathroom.

Answer:
If the bathroom is in your office, they should have a department called maintenance, housekeeping, or janitor.....They should take care of it. A power washer has too much power for indoor use it can blow the walls out....So call maintenance so you don't lose your job for blowing down walls and save that $200........Plus you asked these question twice in one day, you must have just moved in recently. I suggest if you want to keep your office maintenance is the way........ Think Twice about what you do...........

Question : "Karcher" residential electric power washer's motor does not start.?
Power supply is o.k. No visible damage to extention cord attached to console.

Answer:
First off, you'll not be happy with this pressure washer. It's a toy. I ended up selling mine and buying a "real" one (gas engine model). The Karcher unit first must be hooked up to a full-flow water supply. Do not use a hose less than 5/8". 3/4" is better yet. After you turn on the hose, hold the gun lever open to FULLY purge the unit of air bubbles. Now, turn it on. Make certain you've a live power source and that the in-line (at the plug) breaker is not tripped). It is designed to turn off the motor when pressure builds within the unit as you turn off the gun. When you squeeze the trigger, it restarts. (Sell it!)

Question : husky power washer 1800 psi ?
I have a new electric husky power washer 1800 psi and the problem i am having is that i go to use it on high pressure to do my deck and after about 5 minuets the pressure shuts off. I wait for about 5 minuets of so and then it will kick back on and i can use it. I notice that if i start and stop i can go a little longer but it is kinda irritating. I want to just go at it but i cant cause the pressure starts and stops. anyone had this problem ?

Answer:
i've not had this problem, but u should try a little mechanic work on it! try the filters, drain the gas and put new pas in it.... u get the picture! has it ever been stored over the winter? the old gas might have gummed up in the engine....very bad.....take stuff apart and see if u can find the problem!

Question : How do you switch from gas to electric in your home?
I am buying a home and it has a gas stove and gas powered washer/dryer. All of the appliances I would be bringing with me are electric. Do you have to get someone to re-wire the house? Or is there another way to do this?

Answer:
I assume you are concerned about just your appliances, not fixtures in the house like the furnace or water heater. If the proper outlets are already on the wall, then all you have to do is plug the electric appliances in (and of course cap off the gas lines). No big deal. Many appliance retailer / installers can do this for you. If the proper outlets are not on the wall, then you will have to call an electrician. Most houses I've seen that have both gas and electric service are set up for both gas and electric appliances so a consumer can easily use either. I hope this helps. Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
