Power Washer to the rescue
Having read the evaluations for dozens of power washers which all seemed to range from one to five stars, I finally picked a $99 reconditioned Sistema because it had marginally better results and a price that wouldn't kill me if it failed. Other than a few problems figuring out how to put it together, I found it a fabulous success right from the start.
In fact, it paid for itself on its first trial: old and deeply stained plastic chairs that my wife wanted me to throw away. When I brought the first one back into the house, she thought I had painted it. I did--with water--so that it looked brand new. Many chairs, patio stones, algae-stained boats, and other items later, it's still going as strong as the first forceful spray. A total winner.
Finally, I chose the free super saver shipping and couldn't believe it when the washer arrived only a couple of days later.

Electric Pressure Washer
Washer worked normally for about an hour, then the motor started to overheat popping the circuit breaker. After cool down, it would run for a short period before stopping again. Each cooldown produced a shorter and shorter work period before stoppage. Skip this one unless you like a lot of breaks.

Could not rate, din't work out of the box
The power to the unit did not work. Would not recommend this unit, spent time putting together and sending back. Amazon great at returning the unit.

Stumped
The washer arrived but none of the extensions, lances fit into the gun. The washer is refurbished and the lances are old.
I have been calling Sistema but no one picks up the phone. There's no answering machine, the line just drops.
I tried sending them a note on their Contact Us page on their website, but the "Submit" button does not work!!!!!!
Buy at your own peril.

Great Value
I bought a reconditioned WK3 from here and am overall very happy with it. This is the first pressure washer I've ever owned so I can't really compare it to anything else, but so far it meets my expectations.
My original purpose was to knock spider webs and wasp nests off my overhangs. It's also been used for car washing, cleaning the crud off the bottom of my garbage cans, and getting tire marks off the driveway. It gets the job done quickly and without wasting much water. For car washing purposes, it won't replace hand washing as it still leaves a thin layer of grime behind but it does get rid of the big stuff - bird droppings, dead bugs, etc. and makes the hand washing part easier and reduces the possibility of your sponge picking up something hard and scratching your paint. I also found out, accidentally, that at the stronger settings the spray is strong enough to strip the stain off my fence... oops.
There are a few negatives to the machine. The most annoying one for me is that the detergent bottle only works when using the foam nozzle. I was hoping it would work with the high pressure sprayers too. You can work around this somewhat by using the foam nozzle to "prime" the vacuum system and then switch to a high pressure nozzle but the concentration ends up being very low. The other annoyance is that the wheels aren't effective for trying to roll the unit on my lawn. They are too close together and the unit tends to want to topple over. A wider track for the wheels would go a long way towards fixing this. In all fairness though, all of the electric washers I've seen that have wheels are similarly designed and probably have the same problem.

Works Good -- So far
So far this has been a very portable and light unit. It does not clean as well as the Delta 1800psi washer I had, but I am happy with the job it does. I have used it to clean driveways, side walks, cars and RV's and very muddy dirt bikes. It works well on the cars and motorcycles but it is a little underpowered for the larger jobs. My only complaint is the hose does not have a swivel connector at the spray gun handle, and the hose is too short. I do like how easy it is to change pressure washer attachments.
If this unit had a good spray gun with a swivel connector, and the capability of expanding the hose, I would give it five stars, as long as it does not quit working.

GREAT PRODUCT
I recently purchased this item and it is GREAT! I washed 2 cars and cleaned a deck in a matter of a hour. It does a great job and would highly recommend it. Also the price is reasonable. I wanted the gas pressure washer but changed my mind and got this electric one because gas prices are so high I thought the electric model would benefit my money.

Satisfied Customer
My grandkids gave me this machine for my birthday two weeks ago. I had never bothered with these things before. Seemed silly when a garden hose and a little elbow grease could do the job just as well. I thought it was for lazy people. Boy, was I wrong! I live in a hot steamy climate and the mold around the house can be a real problem. This machine cleaned the mold off in no time flat. I was impressed! Then I tackled our boat in the dry dock at the marina for repairs. I had years of brown colored mold and rust and other junk all over the bottom and sides. I usually treat it with bleach and scrub by hand-terrible job. The pressure washer took it all off and quickly. Even the areas I had to pre-treat took very little time to remove years of stains. It did a great job on the deck of the boat too. I have not gone after my driveway but that is next on my list. Shucks, maybe I'll do my neighbor's diveway while I am at it. Great product.

Keep Looking...not much of a machine
I bought this item less than a year ago. It worked OK for a while then began to leak out of the detergent container, then problems arose with the GFI plug, then the motor faltered. Just not what I consider a quality unit. I'd have been better off to spend more and get a quality unit.

Poor quality - no serviceability
I purchased a Campbell Hausfeld model PW1380 in August of 2003. It has been used a little every year, but has about 50 hours on it. When I first purchased it, the plastic hose coupling broke almost immediately. I was able to obtain a brass replacement to replace the factory part. In April of 2008 I got the unit out to wash the walk in front of my home. The washer ran for about 15 minutes and quit. I disassembled the unit and found that the motor had overheated, and the motor brushes were completely worn out. I contacted Campbell Hausfeld by telephone. They do not supply replacement motors, or any internal replacement parts. The Representative told me there was nothing she could do to help me. They advertise in their user's manual that they have over 900 Service Centers around the country. I asked for information on my locale SC. I called their Service Center and they also informed me that replacement parts are not available. The motor was made by FISE SPA in Italy. A product like this should not be sold without available replacement parts. I will never purchase another Campbell Hausfeld product again.

Questions & Answers
Question : Can an electric power washer be used with an extension cord? If not, why not?
I have a heavy duty 100 ft extension cord and want to buy an electric power washer. I keep reading reviews that say that they can not be used with an extension cord. However, because of outlet placement, I have to. Is there a guage cord I could use?
Answer:
Small wire cords will cause a voltage drop and can burn up the motor in the power washer, voiding the warranty. A larger cord will not cause a voltage drop. You need to know the amps required by the washer.
A cord 100 feet long will give you this many amps without a serious voltage drop:
#10 12 amps at 120 volts
#12 8 amps at 120 volts
#14 5 amps at 120 volts
most heavy duty cords are #14

Question : how much pressure from an electric power washer will take the paint off of my car?
I'm looking for an electric power washer to clean my cars, driveway, house siding etc. But I'm worried that too much pressure could harm what I want to clean.
Answer:
I don't think the pressure is the problem, I think the attachment, and what degree sprayer you are using makes the difference...Now obviously pressure affects it some, but if you use a 0 degree sprayer, you are going to remove paint, but go to a wider angle, and keep about a 16" distance from your car, and you should be ok.

Question : I have a large bathroom in my office. Is it possible to use an electric power washer to blast away dirt?
I saw one on sale for $200 in Lowes. How can you use an electric power washer indoors and hook it up to the water so I can blast away in the bathroom.
Answer:
If the bathroom is in your office, they should have a department called maintenance, housekeeping, or janitor.....They should take care of it. A power washer has too much power for indoor use it can blow the walls out....So call maintenance so you don't lose your job for blowing down walls and save that $200........Plus you asked these question twice in one day, you must have just moved in recently. I suggest if you want to keep your office maintenance is the way........
Think Twice about what you do...........

Question : "Karcher" residential electric power washer's motor does not start.?
Power supply is o.k. No visible damage to extention cord attached to console.
Answer:
First off, you'll not be happy with this pressure washer. It's a toy. I ended up selling mine and buying a "real" one (gas engine model).
The Karcher unit first must be hooked up to a full-flow water supply. Do not use a hose less than 5/8". 3/4" is better yet. After you turn on the hose, hold the gun lever open to FULLY purge the unit of air bubbles. Now, turn it on. Make certain you've a live power source and that the in-line (at the plug) breaker is not tripped). It is designed to turn off the motor when pressure builds within the unit as you turn off the gun. When you squeeze the trigger, it restarts. (Sell it!)

Question : A good reliable electric power washer?
A good reliable electric power washer?
Answer:
I have a gas powered Troy-built and just love it. We looked at the electric one and thought we need the extra power a gas one provided. Go to epinions.com and consumer reports to compare. These were very helpful in making our decision.

Question : husky power washer 1800 psi ?
I have a new electric husky power washer 1800 psi and the problem i am having is that i go to use it on high pressure to do my deck and after about 5 minuets the pressure shuts off. I wait for about 5 minuets of so and then it will kick back on and i can use it. I notice that if i start and stop i can go a little longer but it is kinda irritating. I want to just go at it but i cant cause the pressure starts and stops. anyone had this problem ?
Answer:
i've not had this problem, but u should try a little mechanic work on it! try the filters, drain the gas and put new pas in it.... u get the picture! has it ever been stored over the winter? the old gas might have gummed up in the engine....very bad.....take stuff apart and see if u can find the problem!

Question : How do you switch from gas to electric in your home?
I am buying a home and it has a gas stove and gas powered washer/dryer. All of the appliances I would be bringing with me are electric. Do you have to get someone to re-wire the house? Or is there another way to do this?
Answer:
I assume you are concerned about just your appliances, not fixtures in the house like the furnace or water heater.
If the proper outlets are already on the wall, then all you have to do is plug the electric appliances in (and of course cap off the gas lines). No big deal. Many appliance retailer / installers can do this for you. If the proper outlets are not on the wall, then you will have to call an electrician.
Most houses I've seen that have both gas and electric service are set up for both gas and electric appliances so a consumer can easily use either.
I hope this helps. Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
